A Stylish Aberdeen City Centre Wedding

Step inside this beautifully styled Beauty and the Beast themed wedding in Aberdeen's Mal Maison Hotel!

Ashley and Jack show how to rock a city centre wedding with style. This uber-cute couple met at a party - well Jack met Ashley and remembers? her sparkly face. It seems however that Jack didn't quite have the same effect on Ashley at first as she couldn't recall him! The passage of time eventually brought them together however and they chose Mal Maison Aberdeen for their wedding. City Centre weddings offer an air of sophistication and this day was bang on the money there.

I arrived to see Ashley being made up by Alana McRae make up artist who is fantastic at what she does - every bride I've seen looks stunning! Ashley had already had her hair done by Caroline at Distinction Hair Design and was looking fabulous! Her dress was the 'Barcelona' design from Perfect Bridal in Aberdeen. It was exquisitely simple.

Jack was nervously waiting and Ashley made an entrance to remember! Her beautiful candle holders in the aisle came a cropper when she caught her foot on them. However she and Jack saw the funny side and it relaxed everyone for the service. The expressions are great and I think reflects Jack and Ashley's fun side as a couple. Fairytale Events provided the gorgeous starry night backdrop to the room? which created a lovely Disney atmosphere just as Ashley imagined.

Registrar Tom conducted a lovely ceremony full of laughs and love - and nothing else got knocked over ; )

Outside in the April sun guests were able to have a drink and watch some family photos. My style is very relaxed and informal and I think this shows in the images we get from groups.

I spent some time around the hotel with Ashley and Jack looking at ways to use the building originally. You don't need mountains in the background to make stunning images. Some creativity and thought can produce unique angles and we had fun around the hotel and grounds during their couple shoot.

I'll leave you with a few final photos of their celebrations and details including the Disney table stationary by RLA Weddings and gorgeous cake by Icing Design. Oh and much cuteness from Page Boy Max and Flower Girl Eilidh!? Congratulations again Mr & Mrs Furze!

Products, Printing and Passions!

?Products, Printing and Passions?

Here at Zoe Rae photography not only do I want you to have beautiful images I want you to have beautiful products to take away. This is even more pertinent in the days of digital photography where images are stored on USBs and often thrown away in drawers to be forgotten about.

Who amongst us doesn?t love to look at photographs of our ancestors lovingly bound into delicate albums or grand frames? In years to come will our children be looking at our USBs with no way to access them as the technology has moved on? Those with photos on floppy discs for example are now hard pressed to access or print their images.

But here we have a solution for you in beautifully presented USB boxes, print boxes and our fabulous range of frames, albums and baby books. I?m very passionate about getting images off technology and displayed on our walls. It?s a well proven fact that children who grow up surrounded by photographs of themselves in the home have higher self esteem. Pop over to my house and you?ll see my two girls on prominent display.

So today I?m introducing our new range of products for you to lovingly store your images. These have been sourced to coincide with the launch of my new branding and website.

A quick story about my logo ? it represents a dandelion (and possibly a camera lens too?.) which was one of a series of images I took of my youngest daughter Carla when I was studying photography. For some reason they have stayed with me more than any others from her early childhood. Evie would also sit blowing dandelions for hours....My girls are my whole world and its appropriate for me that it represents them. At the end of the day its them I get up in the morning for. That and large mugs of tea!!

Our first product is the USB box. I have sourced everything from a UK based supplier which was important to me. After much searching for exactly what I wanted clients to have I was faced with only US manufacturers. Then I came across Dawn and her company on Etsy. The service was fabulous and the boxes are gorgeous. The crystal USBs bear my dandelion and the handy box ensures those USBs won?t get easily lost ? a priority for my clients who have busy lives. It can also be left on display on the home as a great reminder to print those images!!

Secondly we have the print boxes for family, baby and wedding photos. A USB can be popped in alongside to keep all your photographs together tied with a ribbon! All my collection couples receive 5 complimentary fine art paper prints in these boxes along with their USB. I just love them. The fine art prints are gorgeous and add a touch of luxury to your beautiful images. The boxes offer a fabulous way to store those captured moments forever and the quality means they won?t look out of place on a shelf at home instead of in the cupboard!

Next time I?ll be showing off our framing and wedding albums. For now if you do one thing go on your phone and get those photos printed! Here?s a tip; the app ?Free Prints? gives you over 40 free prints a month for the cost of postage and you can upload straight from your phone in seconds. My 14 year old daughter Evie does this frequently and hangs all her pics on wee pegs from the fairy lights in her room. It looks fab. And having seen the quality they are fairly decent for free photos!

Lastly since I?ve mentioned them so much I?ll introduce Evie and Carla to you here!

Love and Harley Davidsons...

Love and Harley Davidsons...

The mist was gradually clearing when I arrived at Durn House for Caroline and Duncan?s big day at the end of May. My first sight on turning into the drive was two majestic Harley Davidsons parked right outside. Duncan and his Dad had clearly arrived! Duncan?s love of bikes would show throughout the day in the many touches he and Caroline had put together to personalise their wedding.

Caroline and Duncan first met??whilst both working at The Copthorne Hotel in Aberdeen. However I believe it was a slow burn for Caroline at first! It would take 7 long years after this before they eventually became a couple. Duncan didn?t give up thank goodness; and today he was about to make Caroline his bride. He had gifted her with a wonderful basket of goodies that morning with a line from their first dance song written in chocolate. Duncan you do realise you have set the bar high for grooms everywhere?!

But first to the bride! Caroline was sitting sipping champagne getting her hair put up when I arrived. There?s no better way to start the day I?d say! Paula Robertson her hairdresser created a gorgeous style for Caroline?s long auburn hair it was beautiful. Make up artist Emma Thomson finished the look. Flowers were by Four Seasons Florist in Aberdeen and were perfect.

I spied Caroline?s dress straight away it was an Olivia Grace and supplied by the wonderful Elmar Bridal. Her vintage look veil was her ?something borrowed? from friend Kim (who was also acting as bridesmaid!) and it was simply stunning. As she stood in front of the mirror even I was welling up?..

Dad?s arrival moments later to see his only daughter really did get the tears flowing. Maggie the videographer and I both ?got something in our eye? at that moment! I have worked with Maggie, Rita and Dany from Bonsai video before and once again they were great company and I can?t wait to see the highlights from the day.

The boys were outside, relaxed and raring to go so there was nothing else for it than to get on with the ceremony.

The service was perfect and soon Will and his team were ably on hand with the drinks and canap?s ? the gazpacho was to die for! Throughout the day everything went like clockwork and the team at Durn House did the couple proud. The cake was made by chef Duncan himself with a motorbike theme and the matching table centres followed suit. Personal is always best at weddings and the details here were no exception.

Caroline was dying for her confetti shot which is always a favourite of mine too. So we headed to the front of the house followed by all their family and friends to dutifully cover them from head to toe! The couple wanted lots of natural candid shots and even when shooting group photos their guests were such wonderful company I was able to capture so many fun moments. Documenting a day as it happens allows me as a photographer to tell the story of a wedding. Every touching moment, every look, every laugh; captured.

80-90% of my images I present a couple with are candid, reportage style images. However I love to throw in some romance and stun with a few timeless photos. Caroline?s gorgeous veil combined with the imposing frontage of Durn House gave me the perfect opportunity. I mean ? they are in a movie right?! Its the only day you get to feel magical and as a photographer I see it as an honour to make that happen for couples. Caroline had wanted a flowing veil photo and for a while we made Duncan feel like George Clooney ; ) Maybe.....

We meandered around the surrounding roads and fields - and even onto believe it or not ?Love Bridge?. I encourage couples to forget I?m there and focus on each other. After all it?s the only moments they get alone the whole day. It also makes for the most natural, relaxed interactions. On our return I grabbed a guests leather jacket and turned Caroline into biker chic bride. She and Duncan got on the Harleys and had a great time with their guests posing and enjoying some ?down time?. These images made it on to their thank you card which is no surprise.

A special mention must go to Clara the fabulous flower girls who really stole the show. My favourite moment was when she showed off her tattoo of the happy couple! It really was too cute.

The speeches were as emotional as they were funny and I won?t go into why Duncan arrived with his nickname.....! Caroline and Duncan wowed with a rehearsed first dance, I was so impressed. Music was provided by the fantastic Mike Black and as you can see there wasn't a space free on the floor. I was dizzy following them! I left the couple in a haze of ceilidhing, laughter and wedding day magic......

Fun, Forests and Family

An Outdoor Family shoot FAQ.

Outdoor shoots give wonderful opportunities for fabulous light filled images of children and families. However they are not the same as a studio shoot obviously ? but they?re better! They also come with some mud, Scottish weather and the unpredictability of young children. Here I talk you through some pointers to make the session go smoothly and deliver you some great family imagery.

Where to go?

Got a special family spot? Children love the forest? Where you met as a couple? You are free to choose your location but I can assist with this too if needed. There are many stunning places in Aberdeenshire where shoots can take place to give your images that extra special feel. Each season also lends itself to different places - a bluebell woodland in Spring or a leaf covered forest in Autumn. I can recommend great locations for every time of year around Aberdeen and in the Shire

What to Wear?

There are no hard and fast rules here. Be comfortable, be warm! Relaxed casual clothing is fine, pick a neutral base or two and add in a splash of colour if you wish. Try to avoid logos and any busy items where possible and bring along changes for young children - it can be lots of muddy fun at times! Again before your shoot I will send you some ideas based on your preferences. I?ve had many a mum send me her kids wardrobe photos the night before and we?ve picked out what works between us both!

What Happens?

The shoot will take approximately 1-2 hours. Many shots will take place whilst your family relaxes and has fun. Some light posing can occur to give you a wide range of images but I try to work with your children and do what comes naturally for them. We can use props if appropriate and I have a full range depending on your requirements. Your shoot is all about you so most of all it will be enjoyable. I am experienced in dealing with all scenarios from reluctant children to unexpected rain and strive to get the best out of your session as possible no matter what happens. My role is to take images you will adore - you are there to enjoy and be with your family or special people!

What?s next?

Your images will be ready for you to view around 2-3 weeks days after your shoot and true to my commitment to one to one service I can come to your home for this if you wish. An online gallery will also be available for friends and family to see these. Framing and prints will take around another few weeks and these will be delivered by me to your home. With a ribbon, a smile and a thank you!

The great Scottish weather is unpredictable even in summer! I will confirm your shoot that morning depending on the weather and forecast. If the weather is very wet, foggy or windy the shoot will not go ahead and I will endeavour to accommodate you again at your earliest convenience. Shoots can still take place on cold or overcast days, just wrap up warmly!

Overall we are all there to relax and have fun. Don?t see it as a family photography session, see it as a morning out with your loved ones. We all lead busy lives and I don?t want this to be an extra stress. Instead we?ll turn it into an adventure for the children, a stroll with your grandparents and some well needed time out for mum and Dad! Oh and take some gorgeous images to treasure along the way?!
